Student of the Reptile Life:
The researcher and collector of arid land reptiles must be familiar with these behaviors and the locations of their prey. The sand-filled desert roadways bear the prints of every animal that passes across them. The student of desert life can learn many tales about the struggle for survival under the scorching red rays of the sun from these.
It was perched atop a weathered granite knob and had a three thousand-foot view of the sparkling white desert valley floor and the hotter Salton Sea in the distance. It was obvious that he knew who his opponents were as we followed him on his eminence.

In the deserts below us, it was evident that the day had been abnormally hot. The ninety-degree threshold that seems to establish the upper limits for collection would be exceeded by temperatures. Since the best collecting often occurs in the late afternoon and early evening, we decided to take some time off for a home-cooked meal, which is typically a luxury.
