Bearded Dragon Care

Bearded dragons make excellent pet lizards for both novice and experienced reptile keepers. This is owing to their friendly demeanor and low maintenance needs, making them great family pets. They are, for the most part, healthy, sturdy creatures with a lifespan of ten years or more. However, they do become unwell from time to time, so you should keep an eye on your bearded dragon for signs of illness. To do so, you'll need to know what to look for in order to assess whether or not your pet is ill. This post will go over bearded dragon illnesses and symptoms so you can deal with them as soon as possible.

Metabolic Bone Disease, which is caused by a lack of calcium or inadequate lighting, is one of the most prevalent bearded dragon disorders. In this scenario, the lighting does not provide enough UVB rays to allow the body to utilize calcium. This can cause your pet's growth to be stunted, as well as poor bone growth and malformations in the spine or tail. The deficiency can be avoided by making sure your pet gets enough light and eats calcium-rich meals. In terms of illumination, you'll need to invest in a UVB bulb that will offer UVB rays to your pet. You might also make an effort to provide your pet with some sunlight on a regular basis.

Impaction, in which indigestible food particles from a blockage in your pet's digestive tract, is another ailment that is common in these pets. If left untreated, this can lead to your pet's death. Lethargy, a lack of bowel movements, and dragging of the back legs are all signs of impaction. You can help your pet by providing him or her with natural laxatives like olive oil. However, if symptoms linger despite trying various treatments, take your pet to a veterinarian.

Respiratory diseases are also common in bearded dragons, which can be caused by high humidity or cold temperatures.

Noisy breathing and mucus production from the nostrils or mouth are some of the signs of respiratory infection in your pet. This sickness can be avoided if your pet's temperature and humidity are appropriately controlled. You'll need to take your pet to a veterinarian, who will determine the severity of its disease and treat it accordingly.

Internal parasites can also cause bearded dragons to become unwell. Pinworms are one of the most prevalent internal parasites seen in these pets. These parasites are transmitted to pets through the consumption of infected insects such as crickets. Loss of appetite, weight loss, and foul-smelling feces are all indications of intestinal parasites.

If you detect these symptoms in your pet, you should take him or her to the veterinarian so that the parasites afflicting your pet may be identified. Only then will these parasites be eradicated completely. The majority of bearded dragon ailments can be effectively treated if caught early. As a result, be on the lookout for any of the above-mentioned signs in order to keep your pet healthy in the future.
