Betta Fish Tank Decorations

Betta Fish Tank Decorations

Betta fish are undoubtedly one of the most popular breeds today, and it's easy to see why. With their vivid colors and long, beautiful fins, it's hard to believe that these fish come from the muddy waters of Southeast Asia's rice fields.

Aside from how attractive they are, another advantage of keeping a Betta fish as a pet is how tough they are. These fish have evolved to be exceedingly durable in some of the dampest and poorly aerated waterways on the planet.

A Betta fish may easily thrive in a very little water container with no filtration or aeration. This is due to the fact that it is one of the few fish that is okay with breathing atmospheric air when the oxygen level in the water is low.

However, the Betta fish has the disadvantage of being exceedingly territorial. Fighting Fish is how they are known in Southeast Asia. When two male Betta are placed close together, they will fight to the death, a terrible sport that the local children enjoy. Males are more vibrant, whereas females are bland and unappealing.

Betta females are also less aggressive than male Bettas. This means you can only have one Betta in your fish tank and no other fish, or it will eat the other fish.

When selecting fish tank ornaments for your Betta fish, keep in mind their aggressive attitude. You must guarantee that the Betta is not harmed in any way by your fish tank decorations.

The first thing to stay away from is anything with a reflective surface. Mirrors should be avoided at all costs. When the Betta sees its own reflection in the mirror, it assumes there is another male present and goes into assault mode. It will continue to slam itself against the mirror until it bleeds out and dies. You might come across an aquarium toy with a mirror that claims to keep Betta fish interested, but it is not a good item to have for this type of aggressive fish, so I would avoid it.

You should purchase an ornament that includes a small cave for the fish to explore. A floating Betta log, which is a hollow log that floats at the surface, is an excellent aquarium decoration. Betta fish also breathe atmospheric air, thus keeping them close to the surface during their rest is a good idea. Bettas require a quiet area to retreat to from time to time.

If you have a limited amount of space in your tank and a floating log would take up too much space at the top, consider placing one near the bottom. You may also acquire soft artificial plants that the fish can swim through and hide in when it feels threatened. Artificial plants that are stiff and rigid should not be used since they will scrape their bodies against them and cause sores.

Make every effort to obtain ornaments that appear natural, such as rocks, plants, and logs. If you like, you can add standard fish tank decorations like buried ships and castles, but make sure there are no sharp edges that could harm it. Betta fish are aggressive and have a tendency to dart into the cave when startled, thus you don't want them to injure themselves against a sharp portion.
